About Milton Youth Hockey

Milton Youth Hockey (MYH) is a non-profit organization established in 1965 for the purpose of teaching children to skate and play hockey. Milton Youth Hockey programs are open to all boys and girls who reside in the Town of Milton. MYH offers three basic programs:

1.   Learn to Skate
2.   House League Hockey and
3.   Travel Team Hockey

The Learn to Skate Program is designed to teach the fundamentals of skating. The House League and Travel Team programs are designed to teach and develop hockey skills while at all times emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, team work, fair play and fun.

Milton Youth Hockey fields travel teams that play in the Yankee and South Shore Conferences. These travel teams play against teams from other towns and at various South Shore rinks. The travel schedule is longer (generally from September through March) and the cost greater than in the House League.   Registration and evaluations for the MYH travel teams are held in the spring for the following season. House League generally runs from November through March, and Learn to Skate from November through February.

MYH has its own set of By-Laws. There is a twelve - member volunteer Board of Directors which directs the policies and operations of the organization. The Board meets monthly, or at such other times as meetings may be called by any officer of the organization.  The meetings of the Board of Directors are open to all, with advance notice given to the Secretary at least two weeks prior to attending.

MYH is an affiliate Massachusetts Hockey, Inc. (www.masshockey.com), which governs amateur ice hockey in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and USA Hockey at www.usahockey.com which is empowered to govern the sport of ice hockey in the United States. As an affiliated organization, MYH must comply with the rules and regulations of these organizations. Players registered with MYH are in turn registered with USA Hockey. All coaches are subject to a CORI check, responsible for maintaining specified certifications levels, and must be registered with USA Hockey.

MYH conducts the Learn to Skate, House League and Travel Team practices at the Max Ulin Ice Rink on Unquity Road in Milton. This facility is owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is operated by the Department of Conservation & Recreation (Mass DCR).  MYH is a licensee of this facility and has no control over the operation or maintenance of the facility.

MYH is a 503(c) non-profit organization, its books and records are audited on an annual basis by a professional accounting firm, and are on file with the Massachusetts State Attorney General’s Office.
